Probably none – at best, a small fraction of its value.

If you donate a car, you will get a receipt from the organization for what they sell it for. Then IF you itemize, you show the amount as a charitable deduction, and save a small % of that off your taxes.

Example: say they sell it for $ 500, and you’re in a 15% tax bracket. If you itemize, you’d save $ 75 off your tax. If you don’t itemize, you get no tax benefit for the donation.

You’re a lot better off to just sell the car.

you have to wait until they actually sell it to get the amount you can deduct – and you would have to itemize deductions to get any benefit

Any donation is limited to what the charity sells the car for. You’ll get a letter from them showing that amount. If it’s a beater, figure that they will scrap it if they accept it at all.

If you don’t itemize, and about 75% of all taxpayers don’t, you get no tax break on the donation.
